Swedish mobile POS start-up iZettle has
finally expanded into other markets.

The service is now available in Denmark,
Finland and Norway. The UK may be next in line, as iZettle has
hired the former Barclaycard innovation chief officer Stewart
Roberts to head iZettle’s operations in the UK.

In an email announcing the expansion,
iZettle said:

“We’re extremely happy to have reached a
new milestone. As of today, iZettle is available on the App Store
in Denmark, Finland and Norway in addition to Sweden.

The last few months we’ve been hard at work
making sure that everything will be smooth sailing.”

The start-up is giving away 5,000 free card
readers, but the release warned that iZettle has “been absolutely
overwhelmed with interest” for its readers.

Since the launch of iZettle, CEO Jacob de
Geer has said that he hopes to take the service outside of
Sweden.

The expansion of iZettle comes a day after
Elavon, the acquiring business of US Bancorp, released a similar
product called MobileMerchant.

MobileMerchant is currently running a
number of pilots in the UK and full production availability is
scheduled for March.
