HDFC Bank has rolled out an online payment gateway for the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) in Goa, India, enabling the citizens to pay their house tax easily and quickly, using any debit card, credit card or net banking facility.
The first-of-its-kind initiative in Goa will help approximately 45,000 odd tax payers of Margao by eliminating the need to visit the council, while reducing paperwork, ciol.com reported.
The new online payment system will be much beneficial for the people residing out of the city to make timely payment.
The state government is reportedly considering launching similar initiative across all other municipal councils.
In order to implement the online payment system, MMC has partnered with HDFC Bank, while TimesofMoney has been roped in to act as the channel partner to develop the software for the payment gateway and to integrate various banks net banking platforms with HDFC Bank’s payment gateway.
According to the municipal council, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) is serving as the nodal government agency to handle IT requirements.
