ARPU Plus, an Egypt-based value added services (VAS) provider and subsidiary of OT Ventures, has launched a new mobile payment platform T-Pay.

Developed by LINK Development, a part of ARPU Plus, the new payment platform allows customers to safely buy and pay for digital goods and services through their mobile devices using Direct Carrier Billing, where they need to only enter their mobile phone number at the end of online transaction.

The platform will initially be available in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt markets where they are already linked with major mobile carriers.

OTVentures CEO, Fadi Antaki said T-Pay is the answer for regions with low credit card penetrations, high mobile penetrations and where the conversion rate for buying online digital goods through a credit card is low.

"A consumer who browses digital goods and services online will more often than not leave the site just before that final step that requests input of credit card details. The conversion rate from shopping to buying is as low as 10-12 per cent at the moment," Antaki added.

T-Pay general manager, Sahar Salama, said T-Pay will change the face of digital business in the region.
