New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has selected Masabi to provide mobile ticketing service for both the Metro-North Railroad (MNR) and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).

With the new mobile ticketing services, customers can purchase train tickets from a mobile ticketing application or website through their smartphones.

The MTA will use Masabi’s JustRide platform for mobile ticketing and fare collection system. The platform provides ticket purchase facility, user display and easy validation with sophisticated back-end infrastructure for secure payments, ticket management, customer service, reporting and real-time analytics.

This technology will eliminate the need for customer to carry paper ticket and to wait in line at ticket machines.

MTA chairman and CEO Thomas F Prendergast said this is a step forward as they look to use the latest technologies available to make fare payment at all their agencies in an easier, faster, and more convenient manner.

Masabi CEO Ben Whitaker said, "By transforming smartphones into vending machines, we are making waiting in line a thing of the past. We are excited to be working with Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road to bring our award-winning technology to New York’s commuters."
