American Express (Amex) has launched a new platform to provide a single point of access to company application programming interfaces (APIs) and developer resources in payment services, customised experiences, data intelligence and fraud prevention categories.

Dubbed Amex for Developers, the new portal will allow the developers to create opportunities for business growth and drive innovation by leveraging the power of Amex’s closed-loop network.

The new platform features a set of tools and resources. It also supports an end-to-end, self-service workflow, allowing software engineers to quickly create, innovate and test new concepts.

The portal features a ‘sandbox’ environment, which will enable the developers to quickly start testing and experimenting with Amex capabilities, without any access to actual card member or merchant data.

American Express executive vice president and chief information officer Marc Gordon said: “American Express has long used APIs to enable selected merchant partners to grow their businesses by engaging their customers who are card members in innovative ways.

“With the launch of Amex for Developers, we are expanding access to our APIs to additional partners, creating new opportunities for business growth, both for our partners and for American Express.”
