American online payment solutions provider PayPal and Samsung have deployed Nok Nok Labs’ NNL S3 Authentication Suite to enable the new mobile payment system.

The S3 suite will allow both Samsung and PayPal to provide more secure mobile shopping experience, leveraging the emerging FIDO standards.

Additionally, the S3 Suite will enable the next generation of authentication for Internet-scale applications and services, leveraging the existing security capabilities on a device to provide authentication to any FIDO Ready application.

Furthermore, S3 Suite will also reduce the cost and complexity of authentication infrastructure as well as provide risk-appropriate authentication capabilities for a range of applications.

The next Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone will enable seamless and secure mobile payments through an integrated Fingerprint Sensor (FPS).

According to Nok Nok Labs, the NNL Multifactor Client (MFAC) Mobile Edition (also called the NNL FingerPrint Passport) will allow the Galaxy S5 Fingerprint Sensor to connect securely to online services.

PayPal has deployed the NNLTM Multifactor Authentication Server (MFAS) to provide a flexible authentication infrastructure that communicates securely with the NNL client on the Galaxy S5.

Nok Nok Labs president and CEO, Phillip Dunkelberger, said: "By providing the NNL FIDO Ready solution, we are bringing the vision of the FIDO Alliance on a global scale, and at the same time providing PayPal, Samsung and their customers with an easy-to-use and more secure solution."

PayPal chief product officer Hill Ferguson said that by combining FIDO Ready authentication with the new biometric security feature on the Galaxy S5, users are not required to type passwords or login details when they shop.

"Users of the Samsung Galaxy S5 can now benefit from a uniquely secure and seamless online, mobile and in-store shopping experience across the millions of merchants that accept our trusted PayPal service – this means that consumers don’t need to sacrifice convenience to increase security," he added.
