The American mobile payments company Square has unveiled its plans to end its mobile payment system partnership with Starbucks that began in 2012.
The payment company, which has previously pulled its Wallet app from the Android and iOS app stores, will replace it with Square Order while carrying over some of the key features from the wallet, reported ReadWrite.
Square Order will present a new feature called Tabs, allowing users to check into a store and pay by announcing their name to a cashier.
Starbucks, which was a key partner when Square launched its Wallet app, will not adopt Square Order but Square will continue to support the Seattle-based global coffee company for processing transactions made with a credit or debit card.
Starbucks spokesperson Maggie Jantzen said: "Starbucks is not adopting Square Order in our stores. We opted to build our own mobile ordering solution, leveraging our own mobile app and world-class loyalty program."
