MasterCard and Telr, an online payment gateway, have entered into a collaboration to empower small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UAE with digital payments solutions.

The collaboration will seek to educate consumers and enable SMEs to leverage the growth in the e-commerce industry across the UAE and globally, and take their businesses online.

Through the collaboration, MasterCard will facilitate the adoption of electronic payments methods and accelerate the growth of e-commerce in the region.

Telr CEO and co-founder Sirish Kumar said: "SMEs are in a favourable position to succeed online. The internet allows these companies to breakdown physical barriers and enjoy bigger market reach while working around the limitations imposed by offline-only operations.

"In the face of the numerous challenges facing them, Telr provides start-ups and SMEs with the multi-lingual and multi-currency online payment gateway and cash management solutions to enable them to start and grow their businesses online."
