Online payment firm PayPal has teamed up with TransferTo, an airtime remittance company, to allow Canadians top up mobiles around the world without any transfer fees.
Under the partnership, PayPal users in Canada can now instantly top-up prepaid mobile phones of their relatives and friends that are registered with over 400 carriers in over 100 countries.
All that is required to use the service is a PayPal account and the mobile number of the recipient.
PayPal Canada general manager Cameron Schmidt said: "With today’s announcement, Canadians can extend a lifeline to a grandmother who needs to frequently call her doctor in India, or help a sister access the Internet from her mobile phone in the Philippines."
