MasterCard has expanded its partnership with Samsung to launch mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, in Europe.

The payment service will enable owners of Samsung mobile devices to make purchases at contactless and magnetic stripe terminals using NFC and MST technologies.

The partnership will allow European card issuers to connect to MasterCard Digital Enablement Service (MDES) platform and activate the Samsung Pay service upon launch.

MasterCard cardholders can activate their credit, debit, reloadable prepaid and small business cards from participating issuers in the Samsung Pay service and use their mobile devices to make purchases.

Samsung is now collaborating with banks and partners to launch payment service to Europe with plans to roll out in the US and South Korea later this year.

Samsung Electronics global head of Samsung Pay Injong Rhee said: "Samsung Pay is pleased to join forces with MasterCard to offer a simple and safe mobile payment experience enabled for wider merchant acceptance to MasterCard cardholders and issuers in Europe."
