Paysafe Group’s digital wallet service NETELLER has gone live in Japan. The Japan digital wallet secured a licence from the Kanto Local Finance Bureau.

The debut of the Japan digital wallet forms part of the country’s broader plan to lower cash payments. The local government aims to double the percentage of cashless payments to 40% in the next 10 years.

NETELLER CEO Lorenzo Pellegrino said: “As a country which has been largely cash based to date, there is an exciting opportunity in Japan to support the growth of e-commerce and digital payments locally and we believe our tried and tested NETELLER digital wallet will provide an important new payment choice.

“We’re looking forward to working with businesses to offer more ways for Japanese consumers to pay.”

Paysafe is a digital payments firm that connects businesses and consumers across 200 payment types in more than 40 currencies. The firm employs around 3,000 people in 12 locations across the world.
