Zambia’s Road Transport and Safety Agency RTSA is
considering the introduction of electronic payments on cabs and for
driving licenses, according to the Zambia National Broadcasting
Corporation (ZNBC).
The ZNBC quotes RTSA CEO Frederick Mwalusaka
as saying that such a project would aim to reduce overcrowding at
RTSA offices.
The announcement comes a week after Omidyar
Network and ACCION International from the US invested $3.2m in a
Zambia-based mobile technology company called Mobile Transactions
International (MTI).
MTI has already got a nationwide agent network
to offer electronic payments and the investment fund will be used
to grow this distribution network, as well as enhance its
technology platform.
