Money transfer company Xoom has launched a new service, called Xoom Mobile Reload, which enables consumers to instantly send airtime credit online from the US to prepaid mobile phones in 22 countries.

Among the countries covered are India, Mexico and the Philippines.

The company has teamed up with TransferTo, a provider of international airtime remittance, to facilitate the transfer of prepaid mobile credits.

Xoom vice president of Bill Pay and Mobile Reload Bobby Aitkenhead said: "Our customers can send money to their loved ones, conveniently pay their family’s bills, and send a reload instantly to their mobile phones."

Using the mobile phone number, Xoom and TransferTo’s technology auto detects the carrier in real-time and instantly sends airtime credit to the receiving phone.

Xoom said that the technology securely auto-saves the transaction information, including the mobile number, payment method, and amount sent, enabling repeat transactions to be sent with just two clicks.
