European telecom operator Orange has launched its Orange Cash mobile payment system in Spain in strategic partnership with German electronic payment provider Wirecard and Visa Europe.
Under the partnership, Wirecard will offer the E-Money and scheme license as well as the technical platform required to manage the mobile payment application.
With Orange Cash, users can now make mobile payments at any contactless Visa terminal in more than 530,000 stores across Spain and at 2.4 million acceptance points throughout Europe through NFC-enabled smartphone with the app and an NFC-SIM card.
Orange has selected Wirecard for the design, implementation and processing of all technical and financial processes of Orange Cash.
Wirecard has developed a smartphone app that combines all functions of Orange Cash and offers functions like incentives and cashback offers as well as real-time information about balance and transactions.
Wirecard’s executive vice president telecommunications Christian von Hammel-Bonten said: "We are looking forward to supporting the Orange mobile payment initiative in Spain. This positive development confirms the success of the Orange Cash product strategy.
