German payments firm Wirecard has agreed to process credit card payments of Turkish airline SunExpress in local travel agencies.
Under the terms of the agreement, SunExpress will be able to combine its International Air Transport Association (IATA) interface with the billing and settlement plan (BSP) on Wirecard’s digital platform in six countries.

SunExpress is a joint venture of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines. It is said to be one of the largest to operate between Germany and Turkey. Last year, the airlines saw nearly ten million passengers.
SunExpress finance director Fatih Meriç said: “In order to maintain and expand our position as one of the leading leisure airlines in Europe, close collaboration with tour operators, travel agencies and our service partners is key.
“Through partnering with Wirecard, we are now able to optimize the digital processing of credit card payments in travel agencies. This enables us to further enhance customer service and brand loyalty.”
Wirecard Sales Airlines vice-president Eckart Reiche said: “We are delighted to assist the airline in improving further aspects of their business – namely digitalising and streamlining transactions via the BSP.

Wirecard currently processes online as well as point-of-sale payments for more than 90 airlines globally.
Last month, Wirecard agreed to process Royal Air Maroc’s online Visa, Mastercard and Maestro payments.
The company will also manage the airline’s credit card payments made via travel agency and airline agent ticket transaction settlement systems.
