German fintech firm Wirecard has joined an initiative to equip next generation autonomous vehicles with payment capabilities.
The company has entered into collaboration with automobile manufacturer Rinspeed and other firms such as SAP, DEKRA, Zurich Insurance and Osram, as the payment partner.
The collaboration will see Wirecard technologies being integrated into Rinspeed’s concept vehicles.
Such vehicles are envisaged to operate as ‘Commerce on the Move’ serving multiple industry verticals including retail, logistics and transportation.
Additionally, Wirecard will also deliver payment infrastructure for other deployment scenarios.
Wirecard principal manager of strategic alliances Florian Eder said: “New forms of mobility open up completely new possibilities in the area of passenger transport, which will increasingly be electric, driverless and cashless.
