The Western Union Company has joined forces with microfinance-based rural lender Card Bank to offer money transfer services in the Philippines.

Western Union money transfer services are now accessible at over 200 Card Bank locations in the country.

Eventually, the services will also be accessible at more than 1,500 Card MRI offices.

Card Bank will offer domestic and international money transfer services to its Filipino customers.

Customers can send or receive money to and from over 200 countries worldwide.

Card Bank president and CEO Marivic Austria said: “Card Bank has been formed and guided with the commitment to work for the alleviation of poverty and empower them socially and economically challenged Filipino families through responsible financial services.

Western Union provides money transfer services through its Agent locations network in the Philippines.

Customers can use the Agent locator link on its website to find a nearby agent location.

Western Union Philippines head of network Jeffrey Navarro said: “We are proud to extend our network with Card Bank, offering our money transfer services to everyone, including underserved customers in rural and remote areas.”

Earlier this month, Western Union deepened its partnership with Brazilian financial institution Banco SEMEAR.

In the Philippines, last month, Western Union partnered with Cebuana Lhuillier, a micro-financial service provider.

Western Union also inked a remittance deal with the Philippines’ TrueMoney.
