India's personal finance management app Walnut has partnered with Visa and ICICI Bank to launch new features, including bill split over chat and peer-to-peer (P2P) money transfer to bank accounts using only debit cards.

The app, which allows payments without account number and IFSC codes, uses Visa APIs and ICICI Bank payment gateway to facilitate P2P money transfer to eligible Visa accounts.

Walnut said that the facility allows customers to transfer funds using any bank’s Visa debit cards.

To split an expense, user needs to select the expense that is automatically tracked by Walnut, and select friends to split with. Users need to enter his own debit card to settle an expense or do a P2P money transfer. The funds will be transferred securely between Visa accounts, without the need to share personal details such as bank account numbers or IFSC codes, it added.

The company has also introduced an iOS version of its app called WalnutPay that will enable users to split bills and send/receive money from friends.

Walnut CEO Amit Bhor said: “The new Bill split and pay features make the experience fast and simple, eliminating the friction around paying friends. As part of this collaboration with Visa and ICICI Bank, we have also innovated on a simple and secure way to pay credit card bills.”
