Vodafone India has entered into a strategic tie-up with Walmart India that would allow business members of Walmart-owned Best Price wholesale stores to make payments using the telco’s mobile payment service M-Pesa.
Under the agreement, Walmart’s Best Price store members can place an order with the company and an M-Pesa authorized agent will reach out to them and load cash into their M-Pesa account.
The partnership will allow Walmart India’s members, including small businesses, to make payments from their phones for the goods ordered from Walmart’s Best Price Cash & Carry store. After receiving a confirmation message, Walmart India will immediately dispatch goods to the member.
Vodafone said that M-Pesa will enable transactions for all Walmart members in Lucknow, Amravati, Aurangabad, Hyderabad, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada and Guntur to make faster payments.
Vodafone M-Pesa is a mobile wallet that offers services like money transfer, bill payments, and recharge on the move from the mobile. M-Pesa now has a pan-India distribution of over 90,000 agents and over three million customers.
