Vodafone has launched SmartPass, a mobile contactless payments service, in the UK following several global rollouts in Spain, Netherlands and Germany.

The application, developed by Vodafone in collaboration with Visa, will allow customers to make transactions under £20 at any of the 300,000 retailers that display the Visa and contactless payment logos, reported Finextra.

Customers with NFC handsets can use the services by setting up a SmartPass account through the Wallet app, while customers without NFC capability will have to order a SmartPass sticker to affix to their mobile phones to make payments.

SmartPass, which was introduced in early 2012, will also enable users to pay for public transport across the Transport for London network that installed contactless terminals across its service.
