Vodafone Germany has launched its new mobile wallet with the integrated Vodafone SmartPass Visa payment application in Dusseldorf city and plans to expand the service across the region during the first quarter of 2014.

As part of the expansion, Wirecard Group will handle all the technical and financial services for the Vodafone SmartPass card solution.

Additionally, both plastic and digital Visa cards will be issued for the wallet through Wirecard Card Solutions, a subsidiary of Wirecard Group.

Customers with an NFC-enabled and wallet-certified smartphone will receive a SIM card with the relevant NFC function and then will be allowed to pay with their Vodafone SmartPass credit at all Visa-certified contactless terminals.

In addition, every Vodafone SmartPass user will receive a normal Visa prepaid card for use at card terminals that have not yet been upgraded for NFC payment.

Vodafone Germany director of consumer services and innovations, Frank Vahldiek, said: "With our flexible range of services comprising NFC SIM cards and stickers, every mobile phone can be fitted with the contactless function.
