Verizon
has made a u-turn on its decision to charge $2 (€1.5)
for telephone and online bill payments following strong criticism
from consumers and federal regulators.

The wireless operator announced the decision
on January 2 2012 only days before it was to be implemented on
January 15 2012.

“We take great care to listen to our
customers,” Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead said. “The best path
forward is to encourage customers to take advantage of the best and
most efficient options, eliminating the need to institute the fee
at this time.”
