UnionPay International has inked an agreement with Morocco-based Attijariwafa Bank to start accepting UnionPay cards at all the ATMs under the bank in Morocco.

The move will expand the acceptance of UnionPay cards by merchants in Morocco to 40%.

The agreement will allow all the ATMs under Attijariwafa in Morocco to accept UnionPay cards by the end of 2015.

Moreover, UnionPay is planning to expand its partnership with Attijariwafa into the fields including local card issuance, online payment and mobile payment to offer new payment options to local residents in their travels.

Attijariwafa currently has branches and sub-branches in 11 African countries.

UnionPay cards are now accepted in over 40 countries and regions in Africa, among which 50% of the ATMs and 30% of the merchants in South Africa accept the UnionPay cards, while over 70% of merchants in Mauritius and Kenya accept UnionPay cards.
