UnionPay International has signed a cooperation agreement with Sri Lanka’s Sampath Bank, under which all ATMs and POS terminals owned by the bank will accept UnionPay cards.
Following the agreement, UnionPay cards will be accepted by nearly 30% of the local ATMs, while about 700 POS terminals under the bank are expected to accept UnionPay cards by the end of 2015.
At the same time, the two parties have also agreed to cooperate in cross-border online payment.
The two entities are also planning to further expand business cooperation fields and optimise the local UnionPay card services to support the exchange and cooperation between China and Sri Lanka.
According to Sampath Bank director Aravinda Perera, the bank is the second lender in the country to accept UnionPay cards.
