Consumers in the UK have adopted mobile phones for reward schemes against traditional loyalty cards, a survey by CloudZync has revealed.

The survey, which was carried out for 2,000 consumers, found that the average leather wallet contained four loyalty cards, whereas consumers had access to six schemes on their handsets.

The poll found that around two thirds of individuals purchasing electronic products had access to atleast one loyalty scheme on their phones, as against 12% of people using physical card for electrical product purchase.

The research also found that loyalty card users get average redeemable points worth £83 across their schemes, and the UK shoppers have generated over £4bn points in the last one year.

CloudZync CTO Andrew Smith was quoted by Finextra as saying that, "While it’s clear that traditional cards are still doing well in many sectors, retailers that don’t embrace smartphones and tablets as part of their loyalty schemes risk being left behind by those businesses that see the opportunity these devices offer to engage consumers in new ways."
