Swiss watchmaker Swatch has teamed up with China UnionPay and Bank of Communications to launch contactless pay-by-the-wrist watch, called Swatch Bellamy, in China.
The watch, which uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, enables customers to pay for purchases in shops and stores across the country.
The Swatch Bellamy range features four watches in different colours and designs.
The new watch, which features a built-in NFC chip hidden under the dial, allows customers to pay for items using merchants’ contactless POS terminals.
Swatch Bellamy will be launched by the partners across China from January 2016 for CNY580 (US$91).
Swatch will soon roll out the watch in Switzerland via a Swiss bank and secure transaction partner, as well as in the USA.
