American digital payments firm Stripe and Japanese credit card firm JCB have inked an MOU to facilitate JCB brand acceptance at merchants using the Stripe payment solution.

The partnership will enable JCB card members to make purchases from Stripe merchants, while offering Stripe merchants access to a wide range of consumers.

Commenting on the partnership, Stripe COO Claire Hughes Johnson said: “Our partnership with JCB will enable Stripe merchants in Japan to begin accepting payments from more than 110 million JCB cardmembers – and hundreds of thousands of Stripe businesses outside of Japan will also soon be able to accept payments from JCB customers.”

JCB International president Kimihisa Imada added: “Signing the global partnership MOU with Stripe, which provides multicurrency online payment processing to merchants around the world, gives us a way to offer even more convenient payment to our JCB cardmembers worldwide.”

Stripe offers multicurrency payment processing for merchants. The firm started operations in Japan in 2016. JCB’s payment acceptance network caters to more than 110 million members across 24 countries.
