Starbucks have announced enhancements to its mobile app for iPhone including a digital tipping feature, beginning 19 March.
US-based customers will be able to tip Starbucks employees between 50 cents to $2 at more than 7,000 company-operated Starbucks stores in the US. The feature will also be available to Starbucks iPhone app users in Canada and the UK.
Other enhancements to the iPhone app include a feature named "Shake to Pay", which will allow customers to bring the barcode of their Starbucks Card to their screen after "shaking" their mobile device, enabling faster mobile payments.
Adam Brotman, chief digital officer for Starbucks, said, "This update to the Starbucks App for iPhone is an important next step in digital innovation at Starbucks and one of the many ways we’ll expand and improve our digital experience in the months to come."
Digital tipping was the top suggestion by consumers at MyStarbucksIdea.com, an online community for consumers to put forward suggestions for improving customer experience.
Starbucks expects to complete the update to the Android Starbucks app later this year, including the digital tipping feature.
