Payment services provider Softgate Systems has teamed up with media firm Univision Communications, through its Univision Financial Marketing unit, to offer the Univision MasterCard Prepaid Card.

The Univision MasterCard Prepaid Card is aimed at providing consumers a culturally relevant, safe and low-cost alternative to cash and low-balance checking accounts. It is designed to lower the inconvenience and costs associated with cashing checks, as well as prevent overdrafting and associated fees.

The card will also allow consumers to monitor when and where they make purchases, thereby helping them track and manage spending. It can be used anywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted, which includes both online purchases as well as bill payment.

Consumers will be able to buy and reload the card at any participating Softgate retail location using the Softgate Systems retail payment platform PayXchange.
