SmartMetric is developing a new universal, multifunctional card featuring biometric technology, as part of its plan to offer more secure and easy-to-use card transactions.

With built in enhanced security for both the user and merchant, the card will be equipped with embedded fingerprint sensor.

The company said that it has successfully built a miniature fingerprint reader in debit and credit cards that will scan the card owners’ fingerprint, which in turn, then activates the card.

SmartMetric president & CEO Chaya Hendrick said this SmartMetric payments card that works at existing retailers and ATM’s affords users, retailers as well as banks, protection from fraud, using state-of-the-art biometrics technology built inside the card.

To make the card a truly ubiquitous, use anywhere payments platform, the company will be incorporating fingerprint activated RFID, NFC and Bluetooth Light into its next generation biometric secured cards, SmartMetric said in a statement.

Following launch of the new biometric payments card, the company will release other products such as its medical records storage device called the MedicalKeyring.
