Shopify, a cloud-based multichannel commerce platform, has rolled out its new credit card reader that will allow Shopify merchants in the US to safely accept chip and pin, tap, and swipe credit and debit cards as well as contactless payment technologies like Apple Pay.
The new card reader is designed for Shopify POS, the company’s iPad and iPhone POS system used by merchants in retail and pop up stores.
Currently Shopify is accepting pre-orders, with card readers to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2015. Shopify merchants can pre-order the new card reader for $99, and accept credit cards with rates as low as 2.2%.
All US-based merchants who pre-order the new card reader will be enrolled in Shopify’s Liability Shift Protection Program that covers merchants against fraudulent chargebacks made using Shopify’s existing swipe credit card reader until the new card reader is received.
Shopify retail product lead Guy Poirier said: "We want to make it easy for our merchants to accept any type of payment. With our new card reader, our merchants will be able to accept all of the most popular forms of payment available on the market today."
