Colombia-based on-demand delivery start-up Rappi is reportedly partnering with Visa to offer a prepaid card in Brazil.

According to a Reuters report, the pre-paid will be linked with its digital wallet, thereby enabling the customers to pay for the service with the money saved in the app.

The company has already rolled out similar offering in Colombia and Mexico.

Rappi Brazil co-founder Ricardo Bechara was quoted by the news agency as saying: “It is the first of many financial solutions we plan to offer to our users.” However, he did not elaborate on the other solutions that it plans to offer.

Bechara added that the company will now focus on the roll-out of its pre-paid card throughout Brazil.

Visa Brazil sales and commerce solutions vice-president Fernando Pantaleao told Reuters that the prepaid cards can handle transactions beyond the Internet.

The launch of the Rappi prepaid cards will also help the company to devise better rewards programmes. It can also expand its footprint by catering to the under-banked who need a debit card.

Pantaleao added: “Rappi has an engagement capacity that nobody else does and this prepaid card will grant its users access to all of Visa’s benefits and anti-fraud security.”

Since its launch in July 2017, Rappi has expanded in more than 20 cities in Brazil. The financial unit was launched in October enabling fund transfers between app users.

Later, it also introduced the QR Code payment feature.
