Second-oldest British independent bank, Raphaels Bank, has partnered with Grass Roots, the customer engagement business, to deliver the first prepaid loyalty card programme in the roadside recovery industry for the RAC, the motoring services provider.

The RAC Member Benefits card is available to anyone purchasing breakdown cover or insurance including the 7m plus RAC members in the UK.

The Visa prepaid card has added cashback features and will offer customers the opportunity to save money at 60 shops and restaurants with up to 15% cashback.

Anyone buying a new 12-month RAC UK Breakdown policy, RAC Car, Home or Motorbike insurance will be issued with the RAC Member Benefits card by Raphaels, pre-loaded with £20, £50 or £100 depending on how many products they have purchased.

To earn up to 15% cashback RAC members can simply use the debit card to pay for goods and services from the partner brands.

The partnership brands currently include Asda, Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Homebase, Currys PC World, Goldsmiths, Strada, Zizzi, Café Rouge and Laithwaites Wine.

"Through our partnership with Raphaels Bank and Grass Roots, we have created a unique loyalty programme for our members and new customers," said Alex Heath of RAC head of membership.

He added: "The prepaid card allows customers to add funds to their account and then use the RAC card like a debit card in partner stores. As they spend, they accumulate points, which could earn them as much as £500 cashback, over a year."
