Quest Payment Systems, an Australian point of sale specialist, has announced the launch of microPay, a Bluetooth card reader for smartphones and tablets.

Quest’s new device works with a free app, available on iOS, Android and Windows and provides an application programming interface (API) that allows developers of apps for specific types of businesses to incorporate payments capability.

The app makes provision for tips and credit card surcharges, and receipt can be sent to a Bluethooth printer or delivered by SMS or email.

It also supports payments from cheque and saving accounts via electronic funds transfer at point of sale (EFTPOS) cards as well as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners and JCB, plus stored-value gift cards.

A module to handle contactless payments will be available with microPay as an option.

Quest stated that its microPay device was being adopted by two major banks, as well as companies in the field services, taxi and health industries.
