PayPal, a US-based online payment solutions provider, has launched a new pilot Check-In programme for merchants in Berlin, Germany.

According to Finextra, the new technology will now allow local cafes and restaurants or any other participating merchants to offer a walletless transaction to their customers who are using smartphone and the PayPal app.

The new pilot programme will allow PayPal to not only ensure that customers can buy what they want even if they do not have the right amount of cash on them, but also that merchants of all sizes can be an active part of the commerce future.

Currently, Berlin’s participating shops and restaurants include Du Bonheur, hosskost Berlin, MAKI, Mogg & Melzer, momos, Noodeli, ocelot, Shoenschmecker Deli, The Barn and The Barn Roastery.
