More than 70% of cards being used in the US now feature EMV chips, according to a report by mobile POS technology provider CardFlight.

Known as the ‘CardFlight EMV Migration Tracker’, the new report gives insights on EMV chip card use among cardholders and merchants in the US, since 1 October 2015 liability shift.

Amex (American Express) is on the forefront of launching EMV chip cards, with 94% of Amex transactions coming from cards equipped with chips.

According to the report, over 64% of CardFlight merchants are now EMV-enabled, more than three times of the national average.

Nearly 78% of high average ticket CardFlight merchants (over $200 per transaction) are EMV-enabled, while just 48% of merchants with average ticket sizes below $10 have upgraded.

CardFlight founder and CEO Derek Webster said: “Since we were one of the first companies to bring an EMV mobile payment solution to the U.S. market, we feel it’s important to collect data and share it with the rest of the industry.
