Oberthur Technologies (OT), a French provider of embedded security software products and services, has teamed up with Japanese printing firm Toppan to launch a new generation of powered cards in Japan.
The partnership will roll out a dynamic cryptogram payment card known as OT Motion Code, and Cosmo OTP, a payment card that generates one-time passwords (OTP). The announcement was made during the FIT exhibition in Tokyo.

In order to provide an added layer of security for e-commerce, the OT Motion Code technology leverages a mini screen that displays a random code that changes automatically, typically every hour. It replaces the conventional static three-digit security code printed on the back of the card.
OT said that the solution is completely transparent and secure and it does not require installing any plug-in on their web browser, no button to press, the code appears at the same location on the card as before.
Cosmo OTP card includes a six-digit e-paper display and a button used to generate an OTP to secure online banking.
This functionality is typically offered by a separate dongle; however, it has been combined together with payment in the same card, reducing the banks’ distribution and management costs.
