Orange has teamed up with 3V, an Irish mobile payments company, to launch Orange Cash, a MasterCard reloadable prepaid account for Apple iOS and Android smartphones on any mobile carrier, in Spain.

Using 3V’s instant-issuing Moneybutton payments technology service, Orange Cash will offer secure online payments, send money for free to other Orange Cash customers, and request a contactless plastic card for use in stores or at ATMs all over the world.

The new launch follows the launch of DNA Tapakka- a Moneybutton service, which provides Visa accounts through an app with DNA.

According to Orange, Moneybutton will allow for mobile payments programmes to be developed at a lower cost compared to building a programme from scratch, with a white label core service.

3V CEO, Kieron Guilfoyle, said: "We hope Orange Cash will establish Orange as a major player in mobile money in Europe, and help consumers to manage and spend their money safely and conveniently."

Orange Spain product development director, Yves Bazin, added: "At Orange we continue to invest in innovation to make life easier for people. Therefore, the commitment of the company also extends to the development of new services such as Orange Cash, which provide our customers with better tools to make the most of the opportunities that the information society offers."
