Telecom operator Orange Group has launched its mobile e-wallet service in Jordan for which it had received license late last year from the country’s central bank.

Orange Group will operate the service through Petra Mobile Payment Services Company.

The e-wallet service will allow users to carry out financial transactions such as payment of bills, transfer of money, online shopping, and recharging mobile prepaid credit anywhere and anytime.

The launch of this service is part of the firm’s Engage2025 strategy.

The firm plans to expand its footprint in the financial services sector in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, besides expanding the presence of Orange Bank in Europe.

For the telecom operator, Jordan is its 18th mobile money market in the MEA.

Although Orange Money service is currently available in Niger, it exited the mobile market last November.

In the third quarter results of fiscal year 2019, Orange Jordan estimated that its Orange Money had 44 million registered users in the MEA region, with about one-third of them being active users.

Orange Money chairman Raslan Deiranieh said: “Orange Money is a modern solution that eases life by providing high quality financial services to meet the different needs of users in the local market.”

According to Orange Group, the firm has improved financial inclusion in 17 countries through its financial solutions that currently serve 45 million customers.
