The two UK department store chains have accredited record Christmases to stronger online business.
John Lewis Christmas takings were boosted by a 22.6% rise in online sales compared with the same period in 2012, accounting for almost a third of the grand total of sales over the festive period.

Total sales of £734m ($1.2bn) were recorded for like-for-like sales in the five weeks to 28 December, a 7% increase on 2012 sales.
Sales in store were also up by 1.2% due to the final rush before Christmas but also because as much as a third of click-and-collect online customers bought extra items when they visited the store.
House of Fraser meanwhile described this Christmas as its "best ever" with digital sales revenue up a record breaking 58%.
The store recorded a 7.3% increase in sales in the three weeks to 28 December compared with the same period last year.
