In Asia, about 34% of payments were made with EMV chip-enabled cards. This marks a significant rise compared to the period between July 2013 and June 2014 that recorded EMV deployment of about 19%.

During this period, EMV chip-enabled transactions in the US represented less than 1% of all transactions.

According to EMVCo executive committee current chair Mike Matan, a total of 3.4 billion EMV-enabled cards were circulated worldwide by 2014 end.

"The figures published today represent a 10% year-on-year rise in the number of card-present transactions using EMV chip technology, from nearly 30% of all transactions a year ago to 33% in the most recent reporting period," Matan said.
