Contactless card payments represented 10.3% of all card transactions in the UK in October 2015, up from 3.7% in the prior year, according to data from The UK Cards Association.

UK recorded a total of 120.5 million contactless card payments during this period, with expenditure made using contactless cards stood at £929.8m.

The data further revealed that overall spending on debit and credit cards increased by 0.9% to £53.2bn in October, with 1.16 billion card transactions made during this period.

Moreover, average value of a contactless payment surged to £7.72 from £7.35 in September after limit for a single payment increased to £30.

The UK Cards Association head of policy Richard Koch said: "With one in 10 card payments now contactless, it’s clearly the preferred way to pay for millions of consumers. The rise in the contactless limit to £30 earlier this year means there are now even more opportunities to make a fast, easy and secure contactless payment."
