Samsung has teamed up with Oberthur Technologies (OT), a France-based provider in digital security solutions for mobility, to launch Samsung Pay in Europe later this year.
The Samsung Pay service will enable owners of Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge that are equipped with OT’s NFC embedded Secure Element (eSE) and PEARL to use their smartphone for contactless payments.
OT said that it will offer the service from the eSE to the digital payment enablement platform for the launch of Samsung Pay in Europe.
The partnership will allow banks to offer their NFC payment card in the Samsung Pay application in a secure and seamless way.
In addition, Samsung and OT will handle all the enrolment, provisioning and lifecycle processes for the banks, allowing issuers to deploy their NFC payment service without infrastructure investment and with a very fast time-to-market.
User can avail the service by taking a picture of his current payment card (or enter its data) and accepting the terms and conditions.
