Nuvei has received the crypto-asset service provider licence, allowing it to deliver regulated crypto-asset services under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR).
The MiCAR crypto-asset service provider licence positions Nuvei to operate within the EU’s new harmonised regulatory framework for crypto assets, enabling the company to expand its services across all EU member states through a single regulatory regime.

With this licence, Nuvei can offer regulated services such as cryptocurrency storage, administration, transfers, and the exchange of crypto-assets into funds.
These services are integrated into Nuvei’s global payments infrastructure, supporting merchants and platforms seeking to deploy crypto-enabled payment and settlement capabilities in multiple European markets.
Nuvei chair and CEO Phil Fayer said: “This authorisation marks an important milestone in the convergence of payments and digital assets.
“MiCAR brings long-needed regulatory clarity to Europe. Operating under this framework allows us to help customers move value across crypto and traditional payment rails with confidence, consistency, and scale.”

By GlobalDataBesides MiCAR authorisation, Nuvei has also obtained a Payment Institution licence, which enables it to offer services related to electronic money tokens (EMTs).
This combination of authorisations allows Nuvei to support crypto-asset, EMT, and fiat-based payment and settlement flows via a unified, regulated platform.
For customers, these capabilities provide simplified access to crypto payments across Europe, compliant fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat flows, faster and more transparent settlement options, and reduced regulatory and operational complexity when scaling across EU markets.
Nuvei will serve both business clients and retail consumers under these licences.
Retail users will access to simple crypto services, while business customers will benefit from efficient settlements, crypto acceptance, and transparent blockchain-based fund movement, all fully integrated into broader payment, payout, and treasury workflows.
Last month, Nuvei announced that its eCommerce merchants have begun processing transactions through the European Payments Initiative (EPI) digital wallet, Wero.
The company also recently incorporated Visa Direct for Account into its worldwide payments platform, a move that lets businesses transfer funds to the bank accounts of consumers and workers directly in eligible nations.
