The number of automated teller machines (ATMs) in Burma has increased from none in 2012 to 450 in 2013, while the number of point-of-sale (POS) terminals has increased to 2,500.

According to the data provided by a New York-based firm Purchase, MasterCard, which began signing up Myanmar banks in September 2012, has licensed seven banks until now, which in turn have installed 285 POS terminals in the country.

Additionally, around 210 ATMs are set up that accept MasterCard for cash withdrawals, reported Bloomberg.

According to the data provided by a California-based firm, Foster City, Visa has so far licensed eight banks, which have made the card available at 550 merchants across the country. Besides, it has set up more than 200 ATMs in the country.

The remaining 1,665 POS machines in Burma accept cards from Shanghai-based Union Pay.
