Notre Dame Federal Credit Union (Notre Dame FCU) has launched a new high tech security feature for its cardholder to reduce debit and credit card fraud.

Called Irish Card Shield, the features allows cardholders to activate and deactivate their cards in real time from their mobile phones.

Cardholders can also designate specific locations where a card can be used; set per-transaction limits on spending; receive text alerts for each transaction; and allow card use only when near their cell phone.

Notre Dame FCU President and CEO Tom Gryp said: "Being one of the first credit unions in the nation to offer this service was an expensive investment. But a much needed investment in order to give our members the ability to personally take control of their cards."

The Irish Card Shield will be available for download for both Android and iOS smartphones this spring, the credit union said.
