Nintendo has announced that the Wii U video game console will accept Japanese payment cards through Near Field Communication (NFC).
This is the first time that Nintendo would use NFC to accept payments for downloadable games and subscription services.

Through the new service, Japanese gamers can purchase the latest titles on Nintendo’s eShop by tapping their contactless payment cards against their Wii U controllers. An NFC reader is built in the controller of the Wii U to facilitate easy payment.
The company believes that the software update will let users to move settings, apps and games.
Nintendo has not disclosed whether NFC payments will be introduced outside Japan.
