Payments network Dwolla will introduce a new service called Dwolla Direct that enables users to send money from their bank account, without having to first establish a Dwolla account via the company website.
The service is aimed at lowering the barrier of entry into the network and helping digitize paper checks.
The service is already offered by various businesses, but Dwolla is offering a completely new sign-up experience.
Earlier, a user would need to establish an account using Dwolla.com’s site, where they can enter banking credentials. Now a user can reuse the same credentials going forward on any other Dwolla-enabled site or service.
A notable fact is that users don’t need to provide their routing or account numbers to make the initial payment; instead the site will verify the bank using a third-party provider.
The new service is being targeted at small businesses and nonprofits. It is also focusing o government services in the months ahead.
