Mobile technology pioneer Mozido has today begun piloting a peer-to-peer mobile payment service that relies on proximity.
Service users within a certain distance of each other will be able to identify one another and transfer money using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology on their mobile phones.
Mozidp says users regard it a natural extension of their mobile banking products, providing a convenient alternative to cash for small payments.
"Almost everyone has a mobile phone that is always with them, but not everyone has the right amount of cash when they need it. Our proximity payment service makes giving money to someone nearby using mobile phones easier than using cash," said Mike Love, chief operating officer of Mozido.
Mozido provides a number of mobile banking services for both traditionally banked and unbanked individuals, including international remittance, bill pay, mobile top-up and loyalty programmes.
