The JV aims to make
the adoption of m-commerce products and services
easier by providing a single contact for advertisers,
marketing partners, retailers and banks, maximising consumer
benefits.

By delivering the technology required for
speedy adoption of mobile wallet and payments, it is claimed the
project will enable consumers to transfer their entire physical
wallet into a secure, SIM-based wallet regardless of which
NFC-enabled mobile device or network they are using.

The JV will also provide a single contact
point for advertisers, media agencies and retailers looking to
reach consumers on-the-go, while customers will be able to receive
discounts and offers from brands relevant to them.

“The mobile marketing and payments market is
extremely fragmented,” said Ronan Dunne, CEOof Telefónica UK.

“By creating this new business we will
underpin it, giving consumers more things they value and allowing
them to benefit from innovative services. This JV will create a
model that many countries around the world could follow.”

Everything Everywhere, Telefónica UK and
Vodafone UK will continue developing competing products and
services tailored to their own customers, based on the JV’s open
platform infrastructure.

Aiming to launch before the end of the year,
the JV is subject to competition clearance.
